Transient 2D Heat Flow modelling (Geothermal Reservoir)

Transient 2D Heat Flow modelling (Geothermal Reservoir)

(OP)
Hi guys i was wondering if i/we could get some advice.

I am currently doing an introduction into FEM unit and have been given a group assignment to model the heat flow in a geothermal reservoir using both theoretical aspects and ansys (then compare the 2)

Our group has finished the theoretical calculations with a script in matlab however we are having a lot of issues with ansys.

Currently we are just modelling it as a static block of mass with an inlet / outlet node applying a temperature boundary at the inlet (due to constant input of water at certain temp) and a heat flux at the outlet which we had to make an assumption for. The top and bottom of the mass are bound by the thermal gradient.

The main issue with have with ansys are the obscene results which vary so much depending on iterations / step changes and also applying the mass transport term. (we are just using apdl not cfx or fluent).

Here is a terrible sketch: http://imgur.com/jTSAtEK

I know it is not customary but if you feel it would take too long to explain over message boards we are happy to skype and pay for advise! (feel free to contact me @ darren.g.tang@gmail.com)
