Racking System

Racking System

Racking System

(OP)
Does anyone know the start to finish procedures for building a racking system for storage?

RE: Racking System

Do you mean like how one puts it together? like an IKEA furniture diagram?

If i had to guess, (probably are not looking for that) I would say plumb and bolt one column to ground with wedges. then place beam and hold it up as second person installs vertical column... But there must be a million ways to actually do this.?...

I should have been more specific, we want to fabricate racking out of I-Beams to hold mold and dies, what I need to know is the steps as far as approval, do we draw it up and send to a structural engineer for approval? what kind of testing do we have to do after its built? things like that

Thanks

RE: Racking System

It is sort of up to you... I would recommend getting together all of your information. location, loads, what you want, and meet with a local Structural engineer. Give them everything you require and they will design the system composed of tubes, channels, or specify what you have on hand and they can use that. Tell them up front what you want or don't want and they will design and draft it. they will seal it for your records or local approval if you need that. Then get a contractor to build it. Do you want welds, bolts, fiberglass grating, etc, jig crane access, mobile...

You will then need to post labels indicating maximum total loads per shelf (specified by Engineer per your requirements)

We have made these for some large industrial plants that make steel casting for jets and more. it can be done. just know that the better your sketches and requirements will give you a product that you want and will make the Engineers job easier and thus cheaper.

RE: Racking System

There are many companies that make storage racks for anything. Most will have engineers on staff.
