NDS 2012 - Table 11J - p100

NDS 2012 - Table 11J - p100

I'm guessing this is a simple question, but I've always wanted to figure it out.

In this table, for lag screws, for a given wood species, there are 4 columns of values:

Z parallel
Z perp side
Z perp main
Z perp

What is the last one denoting?

When designing with connections Z perp values, I've always used the lowest value in my design. But what is difference between the side/main values versus the last one?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

RE: NDS 2012 - Table 11J - p100

In the 2012 NDS, in the "Notation" section (on page 6) you will find a written description of what those Z values and subscripts actually refer to.
