Connector - midside node

Connector - midside node

Connector - midside node

(OP)
Hi everyone!

in the attachment you can find a screenshot of my problem.
I try to connect two solid 3d parts with connector elements.
Everything works fine as long as I use 8-node elements (C3D8R)
When I want to model the two solid parts with 20-node elements (C3D20R), nodes are added in between the "corner nodes" in the mid of the element sides.
Therefore I also need to connect these additional nodes with connector elements.
Through the connector builder this does not seem to be possible (it is in the assembly mode so the mesh does not play a role), as i can only connect it to the corner nodes and reference points, but the reference point is not the same as the additional middle nodes.
I hope someone can help. Thanks in adavance!
Tim

RE: Connector - midside node

Also, thinking out loud: It seems to me that even what you are doing with 8noded elements is not connecting a node to a node (as you do not have nodes in the assembly module), but a point to a point. Can you tell the program to connect nodes on aline (or a surface) to nodes on another line (or surface).

thank you for your answers.

i put reference points on the intermediate nodes. i looked up the coordinates of the midspan Points in the mesh module and then added reference Points. i could put a connector in between but in the results you can see that the reference Point is not moving with the node.

if i edit the inp file and put the node numbers in the connector line it works - but this is way too much work, because i will need a lot of connector elements and manually putting them in the inp is too much.

bkal you are right but the Point to Point in the end is the same as if i connected the nodes.

so im still stuck on this one...

RE: Connector - midside node

Can you explain what are you trying to achieve, would a tie be an option? This might give a solution to your issue, check section 15.15.1 ofAbaqus manual (V 6.11).

thank you bkal for your help.
but i realized after getting more and more into the project that i will not be able to build my whole model wie CAE, so i have to work with the inp file anyways and will just do it in there!

RE: Connector - midside node

Hi,

I'm trying to statically analyze a structure under weight. In real world this simple structure is able to withstand the weight but in abaqus it deforms largely. I used stress-strain curve for the material and considered the plastic aspect. Can any one guess what is the problem?

Mofy
