STRUCTURAL STEEEL S275 JR,JO,J2
(OP)
Dear All,
i have came across a drawings specifying that the Grade S275 Jr grade will be used upto 12mm, S275 Jo grade upto 25mm thk,
s275 j2 upto 45mm thk.
why s275 jr will be used upto 12mm only?
regards,

RE: STRUCTURAL STEEEL S275 JR,JO,J2
The steel S275 (S stands for structural) has a Minimum Yield Strength of 275 MPa (with a probe of 16 mm of thickness).
In the steel S275JR, JR indicates that the material has been subject to a Longitudinal Charpy V-notch impacts 27 Joules at +20 °C.
For J0 and J2, the Charpy impact test was performed with 27 Joules at 0 °C and 27 Joules at -20 °C, respectively.
The class of steel (JR, J0 or J2) has little or nothing to do with the thickness chosen for a particular design but, on the contrary, for the material thickness selection, the Specified Minimum Yield Strength, has an important role for that purpose.
