Total area resisting compression shell-roof joint

I have few confusions regarding the area we calculate at the shell-to roof joint using appendix details and criteria:

1- All the regions which have hatching on them should be considered in area calculation??

2- Let say that i am using detail d. The angle i am using is 60 x 60 x 8. Wc is 80 mm. Should I consider (80-60)*shell thickness, as the contributing area or i should in simply ignore this and only take area of angle and roof as resisting area??

3- I have seen in some software that they do not take participating area of roof(WC * Roof thickness) in the area total area resisting compression??

RE: Total area resisting compression shell-roof joint

It depends which appendix details and criteria you are referring to seeing as you have not mentioned which Code you are looking at!!!

sorry i am using api 650

RE: Total area resisting compression shell-roof joint

The area should include the 20 mm of the shell as you have indicated.
The reverse question, what about when the angle extends farther than wc, is not so clear. I think they used to show a wc-min extending to the bottom of the angle in that case.
The roof area should be included, not sure why software would exclude it.
If you're designing for pressure, it is conservative to neglect part of the area.
If you're designing for frangibility or checking anchorage for failure pressure, it is not conservative to neglect it.
