Reusable object associativity to CSYS and geometry

Reusable object associativity to CSYS and geometry

Reusable object associativity to CSYS and geometry

(OP)
NX help states this: "When you add a reusable object to your work part from the Reuse Library, you use the Reuse Paste dialog box to do the following: Associate a sketch-based reusable object to a datum CSYS."

So far I have only found one way to associate as reusable object to a datum CSYS - to drag it from the reuse library directly to CSYS. I did not find the way to associate it with CSYS after placement - it remains non-associatively positioned. Does this way exist?

Also, is it possible to associatively align reusable object to the existing geometry in general (not only datum CSYS) so that it adjusted the position if the defining geometry moved?

Please somebody... :)

The 'Reusable Object Library' is intended to be used as a 'Drag & Drop' type of tool.

Hello John!

Do I understand you correctly - after placement (one or other way) in the part, the reusable object's associativity (or lack of one) cannot be changed?

Also does this mean that it can only be associatively pasted on the CSYS, and any other options will result in "dynamic" type of aligment?

Have you tried 'editing' the object after placing it?

Yes, of course I did. But that way I can only edit reusable feature parameters, and not placement. When I double click the reusable object or right-click it in the tree, I only get access to the "edit parameters" option.

What version of NX are you using?

If it's a "sketch-based reusable object" then if you edit the Sketch itself there will be an option to reattach the Sketch. This will allow you to select any sort of plane, including a CSYS, for the placement as well as the orientation of the sketch by defining a new Horizontal or Vertical reference. If the object is NOT "sketch-based" then you might be able to use the 'Move Object' function to associatively repositions the object relative to some existing geometry or even a CSYS.

Hello John!

I can associate with CSYS reusable object from the out-of-the box examples. But when I create my own reusable objects and put drop them on CSYS, I cannot reposition them by moving CSYS - they remain in place. Can't get what I'm going wrong.

I did some research and found the following.

If I have the following tree:
CSYS
Sketch
Extrude
Then when I create reusable object of 'General' type and insert it, then it does not associate itself to the CSYS I drop it on. Reuse Paste dialog in this case offers options 'Keep Current Sketch Active' and 'Preview'.

But if I make sketch internal to the Extrude my tree looks the following:
CSYS
Extrude
Then when I insert it it associates itself to the CSYS I drop it on. Reuse Paste dialog in this case offers options 'Associative' and 'Preview'.

This is a bit confusing, for me at least. Is this 'as designed'?

I suspect so.
