Geodesic Dome Roof Literature
Geodesic Dome Roof Literature
(OP)
I'm looking to buy myself a book on geodesic dome roof design. I specifically want to look into this in case anyone asks me to design an aluminum geodesic dome roof for a large diameter API 650 tank. I'm not just looking for a book that will show me how to calculate the proper geometry, but I also want to be able to properly analyze the stresses to size the aluminum members and determine the required thicknesses of the aluminum cover plates.
Anyone come across a good book on this subject? Also if it goes through typical connection details between members that would be great!

For evaluating a single panel, either finite element method with large deflections or physical testing.
For the whole roof, structural design software.
A couple of issues, though. Each company has their own extruded cross sections so the member properties depend on who is building it. Similarly, the connection details depend on who is building it- each company has their own details worked out.
For the layout, the main issue would be how large you can get the sheets to make the triangular panels.

I agree with JStephen, there is only a few companies that do this kind of design and theire are very secretive about the procedure of design, i have attached a link though that may help you understand how goedesic domes are designed, it was very helpful in my case, hope it may halp you also
however you may consider using internal framing dome roof (cuved beams) you certainly will find good documentation if you choose this alternative.
