U Stamp

U Stamp

(OP)
Quick question. Are vessels still required to be U - stamped? I see in the new Code they now have an ASME stamp instead. I don't deal with a lot of vessels anymore but I just received a vessel with a U stamp and I am being told that it is no longer a valid ASME stamp.

RE: U Stamp

If the shop had the U stamp and then received the New "ASME mark" is still allowed too use the old U stamp if the shop has decided too keep it and has not returned to the ASME. So your vessel is OK. Genblr

A couple selected Q and A's:

When will we be required to discontinue use of the old Code Symbol Stamps?
The old Code Symbol Stamps for ASME BPVC Sections I, IV, VIII, X, and XII (U, S, PP, etc.) were discontinued on January 31, 2013. The N-type Code Symbol Stamps (N, NA, and NPT) may be used until December 31, 2015.

Are we required to return the old Code Symbol Stamps?
Yes. The Code Symbol Stamps are the property of ASME and must be returned once you discontinue use of them.

RE: U Stamp

Just checked - the link doesn't take you directly to the page I intended. If you get to the general FAQ page, click on the "Single Certification Mark" link in the second column.

RE: U Stamp

Right. Before Jan 1st. You could use either stamp old or new one.

RE: U Stamp

If it was Sect. VIII vessel and still used the U stamp, I believe they should have listed use of Code Case 2714 on the U-1 or U-1A Mfr Data Report
