I work for a contract manufacturer and we have a designed part that uses API 5L Piping Material and we need to to know what standard we can follow to weld them together. Do we have to have certified welders under API 1104 or can we use our ASME certified welders? Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

RE: API Material and Welding in Accordance to Code

DLind2005,

Details on the part and fabrication code are neeeded to accurately reply to this question. The answer could also include AWS D1.1, or others...

The answer depends on the application and your customer requirements.

ASME B31.3 permits its use including 5LX. ASME B31.1 permits the use of 5LA and 5LB.
