Field hydro test pressure of boiler assembly as per ASME Section I

Field hydro test pressure of boiler assembly as per ASME Section I

Field hydro test pressure of boiler assembly as per ASME Section I

Hi

As per ASME, individual components of boilers (SH,RH,Eco) are to be hydrotested at shop, at 1.5 times maximum allowable working pressure. All these 3 sections are designed for different pressures, based on pressure drop, head etc. For example, eco may be designed at 100 bar, SH may be at 95 bar etc. Each component will be hydrotested at shop as per ASME PG 99.

At what pressure, the boiler has to be hydrotested after total assembly at site?
This is a section I construction boiler.

Please re-read PG-99, the information is all there. The final hydrostatic test pressure on the completed boiler is based on the maximum allowable working pressure of the superheater outlet on the master stamping.

Hi metengr

The case you have mentioned is for once through boilers (drum less type). I was asking for subcritical drum type boiler.
I guess, it is 1.5 times drum pressure.
But as i know, maximum pressure will be coming in economiser circuit. So whether it has to be 1.5xeconomiser pressure ?

RE: Field hydro test pressure of boiler assembly as per ASME Section I

Yes, it would be maximum allowable drum pressure. What does the master data report show???

RE: Field hydro test pressure of boiler assembly as per ASME Section I

Max allowable pressure of the different assemblioes being tested; if any assembly is lower than any of the others, that lowest pressure assembly sets the limit. (Assuming, as you have pointed out, that each was hydro'd independently already.)

RE: Field hydro test pressure of boiler assembly as per ASME Section I

Hydro s/b based at 1.5X the MAWP of the boiler and be careful about the water temperature since the NBIC has limits imposed on it.
