INTELLIGENT PIGING FOR CROSS-COUNTRY PIELINES

INTELLIGENT PIGING FOR CROSS-COUNTRY PIELINES

(OP)
If you have any information on Intelligent Pigging for Cross-Country Pipelines please let me know, or if you know a website that I could access information on this topic.
I have been seconded to a Intelligent Pigging project dealing with cross-country pipelines in Scotland. One of them is a 12" product line and the other is a 20" Crude Oil line. I know very little abou Intelligent Pigging and would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

RE: INTELLIGENT PIGING FOR CROSS-COUNTRY PIELINES

We've used PII (Pipeline Integrity International) to "smart pig" a 20" Crude Oil pipeline, as well as, smaller product pipelines.  Type of inspection pig will vary depending on line size (due to technology available). We use MFL (magnetic flux leakage) for the 20" crude oil line.

PII was formerly operated by British Gas; merged with a second smart pig outfit (Pipetronix) a few years back; and is now owned by GE.  You can check them out at:

There is also a useful advisory centre (basically a kind of trade association for pigging companies) which you can use a starting point. There web address is www.piggingassnppsa.com.
