Hi Experts,

Do you know about some acceptance criteria for API flange Sealing area? I tried to look in to API 6A but was lost..
And for Weco sealing area? Do you think there is such criteria?

Thank a lot in advance!

Hi jbeckhou,

We are doing some maintenance on the API flange, there is some minor scratch and errosion on the sealing area. So we are wondering if there is an inspection procedure and acceptance criteria for the sealing area.
Hope my question is clearer now.

Thanks for your help.

Try table II-3 of ASME B 16.5. Provides dimensions of permissible imperfections of the flange face. Radial imperfections are the worse and you often need to get the flange "skimmed" as the depth of the allowable imperfection is very small.

To measure the depth you will need a very accurate micrometer set up to traverse the flange face.

Often much easier to just cut it off and install a new one...

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way
