Capital Cost of Carbonitriding

Capital Cost of Carbonitriding

Capital Cost of Carbonitriding

(OP)
The company I'm interning for is looking to get into carbonitriding and wants me to get an idea on cost. They like to talk in financial terms like the size of capital investment, which is over my head. I'm looking for an estimated dollar amount and what size of capital investment that would be. I.E. small, medium, or large. Any help would be great.

RE: Capital Cost of Carbonitriding

What is the specific carbonitride process you intend to use? What are the typical size/shape of the parts you will process? What quality requirements will you need to meet? What are the batch sizes and production rates you will need to meet? Do you expect the equipment and qualified operators to be utilized 100% of the time? If not, how will you account for the operating and manpower costs for the periods the facility is idle?

I shall provide my view towards capital equipment investment.

This is a serious business question and quite often experienced engineers have failed. It could be due to wrong choice of technology, or being ahead of times, or wrong equipment selection. I am sure each one of us could relate to these experiences. What is competition doing for similar product.

The heat treatment equipment, should not be considered in isolation. One should also consider the auxillary support needed, safety and environmental impact, additional manpower and training etc.

Also will this equipment be needed 24/7 for the next 5 years or will it become obsolete if the product line is discontinued.
