Teflon coated bolts

Teflon coated bolts

Teflon coated bolts

(OP)
We tried teflon coated bolts on some of our more corrosive services year and years ago and saw no real increase in corrosion resistnace or bolt life. I understand that advances may have been made in the area since we tried them. How much benifit are people seeing in bolt life in HCL, caustic and other coorosive services with teflon coated bolting in real life plant environments
Thanks

RE: Teflon coated bolts

You can not expect miracles from Teflon coated bolts but I heard of good results with a PTFE coating called Xylan in HCl service. Not sure who orignally made it but Google gives a lot of results.

RE: Teflon coated bolts

Bolts coated with XYLAN have been around for decades and have been giving excellent life. However, there are several grades of this fluoropolymer coating. (Not really Teflon)

I am curious about the specific grade of "Teflon" coating that you used and how the fasteners failed

Suggest that you contact Metal Coatings Inc. to get the proper grade for your particular service.
