Inspection opening requirement for U tube Heat exchanger as per ASME

Inspection opening requirement for U tube Heat exchanger as per ASME

Inspection opening requirement for U tube Heat exchanger as per ASME

(OP)
Hi Everyone,

I have query regarding inspection opening requirement for U-tube heat exchanger with respect to ASME.

In the MDR we have to mention the inspection opening details provided for each vessel constructed under ASME, so in case of Heat exchanger can we mention channel and shell flange (Body flange) as inspection opening in the MDR?

Heat exchanger details are given below.

Type : U-tube heat exchanger
Code : ASME Sec VIII Div -2Ed. 2010 Add. 2011a
ID : 510mm (both channel and shell side)

Kindly let me know which clause of ASME other than UG 46, i have to refer for inspection opening requirement of heat exchanger.

Thanks and regards

RE: Inspection opening requirement for U tube Heat exchanger as per ASME

Baijuz, you mention Div 2 and UG-46? Not consistant.

I don't know of anything formal, but for Div 1 work, UG-46 is routinely ignored for removable-bundle exchangers. Process nozzles can serve on other types. Not sure how it is addressed on the U-1. Suggest consulting your AI.

Regards,

Mike
