Are there any AWS code restrictions to welding over an E80 weld with E70 weld?
Are there any AWS code restrictions to welding over an E80 weld with E70 weld?
(OP)
I have a situation where rebar (ASTM 706) was welded to ASTM 572 gr.50 steel plate, with E80 electrode. Now I want to join another 572 plate to this one and a small portion of the E80 weld is into my joint. Is is okay to weld the two plates together with E70 electrodes and pass the E70 weld OVER the existing E80 weld? Does AWS cover this situation?
Thanks
Thanks

It is not the purpose of standards to try and consider every possible permutation of things and codify each.
Standards do not supplant engineering.
