Palettes - Nx 8.5 - re-order them

Palettes - Nx 8.5 - re-order them

Palettes - Nx 8.5 - re-order them

(OP)
Hello!

here is what i'd like to do : re-order the palette display order.

I looked of course in the preferences menu/palette, but no luck there.

I guess this is driven by some file (pax?) located somewhere in the UGII directory.

Anyone knows where this file would be located (and named) ?
Also, anyone has been able to re-order (or remove annoying and useless ones...) the palettes ?

Thanks in advance !!

Louis

RE: Palettes - Nx 8.5 - re-order them

I had no problems going to...

Preferences -> Palettes...

...and selecting a palette from the list in the dialog and then using the UP/DOWN arrows (they're in the upper Right corner of the dialog) to move the selected Palette Tab in the Resource Bar. Please note that you can ONLY move the Tabs which appear BELOW the History 'tab'. The History 'tab' and those ABOVE it cannot be reordered or moved. And before you ask, there is nothing like a .pax file which controls this, it's hard coded into the software.

Hello !

I see. That was exactly what we were looking for : re-ordering the Part, Assembly and constraint navigator.

Thanks for your help!

Louis

Wait! Let me guess...

To make it look & feel more like CAD package X?

hello !

We have user that jumped to Nx 2 years ago, after 17 years using ProE.

it was quite a challenge, you can trust me !

That being said, we try to reduce their "pain" by minimizing differences between 7.5 and Nx8.5.

One being the constraint manager that is exactly where the part navigator used to be (i really want to mention that this navigator is FREAKING useless.... The old magnifier is still the way to go to locate a constraint).

Anyway, you can also consider the following: we do not use few built in palettes and we do have a bunch of custom ones. It would be nice to get rid the other useless ones...

Anyway, i'll tell them that I tried !!!

thanks,
Louis
p.s. I am not of the old ProE user ;)

RE: Palettes - Nx 8.5 - re-order them

At some level, you just have to get used to the interface changes between versions. If the addition of a new palette causes "pain", then NX 9 is going to crush him!!

RE: Palettes - Nx 8.5 - re-order them

Louis, you're the first person I've ever heard say anything bad about the Assembly Constraint Navigator. As for the the so-called 'old' magnifier, it's still there and works just like it always did.

That being said, you'll be happy to know that with the NEXT version of NX, for which beta testing starts four weeks, you'll be able to remove ANY of the Resource Bar tabs as easily as unchecking items on a list.
