Differential protection transmission lines
Differential protection transmission lines
(OP)
hello,
please can anyone answer my question about the differential protection transmission lines.
can this protection do a disconnecting and reclosing cycle ?
can this protection do a disconnecting, reclosing, Disconnection cycle ?

RE: Differential protection transmission lines
The problem is for longer lines, a loss of communications becomes an increasing problem, so a secondary operating scheme would need to be used, which reduces the need for a line differenial. For the classical short line used with a line differential, there typically would be no advantage to reclosing.
But to answer your question, yes many line differential relays can do reclosing.
RE: Differential protection transmission lines
We also enable backup distance protection in case of channel fail (but permanently enabled). If we were to ever have a zone 2 trip, it would not comply with the rules (but at least the fault is cleared).
All protection is duplicate with separate comms channels, so this would have meant that both of our channels have failed.
We auto-reclose on differential or zone 1 trip.
As cranky108 said, most relays have an auto-reclose feature - check the manual of the relay to be sure.
