NX 7.5 raster image

NX 7.5 raster image

Dear NX people,
I was wondering if raster image only allows you to make tiff images. Can you create jpeg or any other higher quality image?

RE: NX 7.5 raster image

When you say 'Raster Image' are you talking about the function which allows you to create a bounded plane with a raster image attached to it or are you talking about using the High Quality Shading to create a new image?

Yes I'm talking about the raster image that allows you to attach image to plane..was wondering if a tiff file is the only kind you can create or can I create a higher quality raster image from a different file like jpeg. My problem is that when I make my raster image from a tiff file it is blurred

RE: NX 7.5 raster image

There is an option "maximum texture size" in the raster dialog, it has to do with how much memory the raster image is allowed to use. Set that value higher and the image gets less blurred.

Tomas

Thank you!

RE: NX 7.5 raster image

Note that starting with NX 9.0 we've enhanced the 'Raster Image' function to accept either TIFF, PNG or JPEG formatted image files, as well as many other changes, both in the user interface and in the functionality and options.

Hi John

Quick question on 'Raster Image" in NX9
In previous versions raster image needed a Visualise license.
In NX 9 the raster image displays in all view types shaded wire frame etc.
Is this a licensing over-site or has the Visualise license requirement gone forever.

RE: NX 7.5 raster image

I think it's just this function which has been 'liberated'.

RE: NX 7.5 raster image

Hi John,

Can you do a raster to vector within NX? Create a 2d outline of the image?

Thank you

John

RE: NX 7.5 raster image

NX has no automatic raster to vector conversion. Importing a raster image as described above is the usual method of manually creating vector geometry (usually a sketch) given a raster image. The image is imported then you can create geometry on "top" of the raster image as a guide.

RE: NX 7.5 raster image

NO, there is no function for that in NX other than tracing curves over the top of the image manually.

Note that there are 3rd party tools which do that sort of thing to one degree of success or another. I believe these tools can output the data as DXF or DWG files which can then be imported into NX. So if this a thing that you need to do a lot of, you should look into some of these 3rd party products.

@TheCircle, we made a video showing how we do exactly that for NX: http://vimeo.com/83654051
