Linear Damper

Linear Damper

(OP)
I need a damper like the one here (http://www.mcmaster.com/#door-dampers/=rnsu4k) The problem is, I would like to find one that starts compressed and dampens when in tension. Does anyone know of an off the shelf product like this?

RE: Linear Damper

Dampers are manufactured in 3 modes. Extension, compression, or both. Any reputable damper manufacturer will be able to help you out. Are you looking for a stock part that you can buy off the shelf, or make to order?

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

Looking for something off the shelf and easy. I just found these guys (http://store.easylift.com/) who seem to have dampers that are compressed in a relaxed state. I need about 7 inches of travel and it should be able to handle a 200 lb force.

RE: Linear Damper

We buy a lot of dampers from these folks:

McMaster was a distributor for them, it may to talk to a McMaster sales rep. They will source many items that do not appear in the catalog.

If memory serves, Stabilus also makes dampers, but I believe it is all make-to-order.
