Bolt Torque

Bolt Torque

I understand that Purpose of tightening the screws/Bolts are to fix Axial tension of the Object.
However, I need a better explanation which allow me to know about it in Depth and how to find out Bolt torque as well.

Can anyone assist me in this regard?

RE: Bolt Torque

look into the FAQs ... there are many threads on bolt torques

Hi All,

Thanks for the interest shown on this query.,
Let me try the link, It seems to be vague.,

RE: Bolt Torque

Assuming you are referring to "structural / heavy industry" applications (cf. say aerospace etc) this is one of the better publicly available resources that I have found:

http://www.cisc-icca.ca/files/publications/techpub...

Subject to the earlier assumption, you will find the torque of the fastener is generally not a criterion of consideration.

I propose although this is a good start, it is not exhaustive (and may not reflect your local requirements etc) and hence you should consult your relevant local resources etc as required.

Regards,
Lyle

RE: Bolt Torque

Do you "know" the (axial) forces your bolted joint will be subjected to?

Have you looked into possibilities of bolted "flange" features creating a prying action in addition to simple tension?

Hi All,

Thanks for your response, I am just looking for an understanding and not into any technical applications.

RE: Bolt Torque

Sundarzplanet,

Take a look at either Lamon's or Flexitallic's Bolted Joint/Gasket Handbooks. They are full of good information about bolt loadings.

RE: Bolt Torque

You may also want to look into ASME PCC-1, which provides torque and fit-up suggestions.
