Excitation panel

Excitation panel

(OP)

We have a excitation panel for compressor motor ( 4.8MW),there was a fluctuation for electrical parameters. The excitation panel was running in FCR mode. The mode was changed from FCR to VAR regulation mode. As soon as mode was changed the exciation paramters (Excitataion voltage & current) fluctuation started & machine tripped on out of step protection. Before also we have changed this mode from FCR to VAR and nothing like this happened. I have doubt whether it is better in these circumstances to select AVR mode. The different modes on ABB make excitation panel are : FCR,AVR,AVR+VAR,AVR PF,PF reg.VAR reg.It is understood that the maching went out of stability (capability curve) zone when the mode was changed.

Also what may be the possible reason for Fluctuation in electrical parameters when the process parameters like flow etc are constant.

Thanks
