STAAD Bending Moment & Shear Force Diagrams in Post Processing

STAAD Bending Moment & Shear Force Diagrams in Post Processing

(OP)
Hi, new to the forum and have something that's been driving me mad for days.

I'm running STAAD ProV8i SS5 and want to perform an analysis on the most basic of things - a simply supported beam. The span is 8m, there is a factored UDL of 53.95kN/m from 0m to 5m, there is a (factored) point load of 26.33kN at 5m and there is a (factored) UDL of 47.61kN/m from 5m to 8m. I can run the analysis perfectly fine, but in post processing when I hit the 'beam' tab and 'graphs' tab, I get the BM and SF diagrams for either the UDLs or the point load but not both combined, i.e. the max shear and the max bending moment. I just get the max shear or max bending moment for each particular set of loads. Any way of combining the two to give max values on the SF and BM graphs? I have tried sticking them in an 'envelope' but this still only gives max values of one of the component forces.

Would really appreciate some help/advice on this. I have a project for college due in next week!!!

RE: STAAD Bending Moment & Shear Force Diagrams in Post Processing

It sounds like you've put the UDL and concentrated loads in seperate load cases. You can combine them by using the LOAD COMBINATION command. See help for info. If I've misunderstood I suggest you post your .std file here.

RE: STAAD Bending Moment & Shear Force Diagrams in Post Processing

I agree with dozer. You can use either the LOAD COMBINATION command or the REPEAT LOAD command.

Just a quick FYI; I use the REPEAT LOAD command all the time, even though it takes longer to run (more noticeable in a large model) but in some cases you have to use the REPEAT LOAD and not the LOAD COMBINATION commands. An example would be, if you use tension only bracing, you have to use the REPEAT LOAD.
