which software would one use to investigate the cause of pipe burst?

RE: software

Why would you use software to determine the cause of a pipe burst? Software can help you evaluate the loading on the pipe; however, it is not difficult to do that manually. Further, you need to look at metallurgical properties, the failure mechanism, the physical manifestation of failure, pipe defects, corrosion....and several other parameters...all of which require physical examination of the failed specimen....not software. After you determine the cause of failure you can then model the failure with software to make the presentation of the results a bit clearer. Use your eyes...not software to determine the cause.

RE: software

In addition to Ron's comments:

How large pipe and do you know/suspect why it failed? Pipe burst... from pressure? from freezing? or what? Failure because it was restrained? Corrosion issues? Inferior pipe (we had some Chinese 10" stuff that should have tested to 1000+ psi... it failed at a little over 100 psi; test values and coupons were identical except for the ID number) We use Caesar II for pipe design but mostly for forces/restraints.

I have come up with a set of steps to separate pipe burst due to other causes and that due to water hammer and I wanted to find out whether there is a package that performs a similar function

RE: software

I'm afraid the package is called a skull.

I hate Windowz 8!!!!

RE: software

Ohhhh Nooooo, Mr. Bill... not the skull!

RE: software

In many cases the skull is more hardware than software.

dik....rofl
