Create drawing to modify existing part (not related to red-line drawing)
Create drawing to modify existing part (not related to red-line drawing)
(OP)
If I have existing part drawing (not belongs to company A), and I have to make some modification. For example: adding one hole and remove/reduce the thickness.
How or what is the best way to show this modification needed in my drawing?
Do I need to show all the detail or just show what need to be modified (with overall dimension and important dimension, etc)?
My thought is don't need to show detail dimension (same as original print) because this is not related to fabrication of this part but to modify the part.
and will provide the dimension as "(xxxx)"--> the dimension as for reference.
and the dimension that need to modify will not be bracketed.
Any comments? Any standard way?

1. I want to make some modification of the part.
2. I am not creating this part OR I am not asking to fabricate/machine this part.
Just wondering is there a "standard".

You could add some reference dimensions that may help the machinist for part size.

Well, ASME Y14.24 has an entire section on modifying drawings.
I believe you may want an altered item drawing but you'd probably want to look in detail to be sure.
What is Engineering anyway: FAQ1088-1484: In layman terms, what is "engineering"?
