Misc. Parking Structure

Misc. Parking Structure

Misc. Parking Structure

(OP)
I am designing a 'height restrictor' for lack of better terms. Attached is a photo of what is proposed. My question is what sort of load to throw at the structure. It is a replacement for one that was hit.... I have designed vehicle barriers (ground mounted concrete or cable) in the past and seem to remember using 5000# as my design load but don't remember where that # came from. Is there a design refence that could be suggested?

Thx in advance,

GW

RE: Misc. Parking Structure

Do you want an actual restrictor, or just something that will not damage the vehicle and caution them that it is too high?

Even if you raise it a few feet and dangle something non-destructive from it a semi (I'm being extreme on purpose) could come through and still hit it.

I just found section 1607.7.3 of 2009 IBC calling for 6,000 so my memory was a bit off.
