Gas composition and GMAW

Gas composition and GMAW

(OP)
How does extra CO2 affect the GMAW process?

Specifically switching to 75%-25% Ar & CO2 from 92%-8% Ar & CO2.

This question also appears in "Welding, Bonding and Fastener engineering" group but I think this group may have some insight as well.

RE: Gas composition and GMAW

The CO2 will ionize much easier than the Ar, so having a higher CO2 content will lower the arc temperature.

RE: Gas composition and GMAW

Full spray transfer will be achieved with correct voltage/amps. 75 Ar - 25 CO2 provides globular (near spray) transfer.
