Crack propagation using CGROW command: propagation path NOT flat

Crack propagation using CGROW command: propagation path NOT flat

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I am modeling the propagation of a crack in a laminated composite plate. The 2d model is built up with PLANE182 elements (laminated plate) and the interface (crack) is modelled using INTER202. The propagation is simulated with the CGROW command according to the VCCT technique. The crack path is not flat, it is broken down into 3 lines: 1) horizontal line; 2) line going up at 45deg.; 3) horizontal line. So the crack path is "horizontal => 45deg upwards => horizontal". When I launch the calculation, the crack follows the path as expected for the 1st part (horiz.), then for the 2nd part (45deg.), and then the propagation stops at the junction between parts 2 and 3. I have found no solution for allowing the crack to propagate further. It is important to mention that I have only 1 crack in my model (with a propagation path following 3 lines), not 3 distinct cracks. I'm wondering why the crack does not propagate to the 3rd propagation line, while the 45deg. branching actually works... Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!
