Drafting resolution too low

Drafting resolution too low

Drafting resolution too low

(OP)
Hello,

I'm having trouble getting smooth lines, especially for circles, in the drafting application. However, there is no problem in the modeling application. See the attached image to see the same object in both applications. As you can see, the circles in Drafting are jagged, and is the case even after Regenerate. NX seems to automatically increase the resolution as you zoom in the drawing, but I would like to control the resolution to force the curves to be even smoother.

Is there a setting that controls the "smoothness" of curves in Drafting? Prefs>Visualization>Line>Curve Tolerance makes no difference.

RE: Drafting resolution too low

Are you using 'Exact' or 'Lightweight' views on your drawing? If it's 'Exact', select the view, press MB3 and select 'Settings...'. In the Common -> Configuration section try changing the 'Tolerance' value.

I'm using exact views. Changing the tolerance value as you described does not make any difference.
However, one workaround is to zoom in very close on the drawing, then zoom out again. This will improve the smoothness of the curves, but when the drawing regenerates, the curves become slightly jagged again. It's not a big deal, just wondered if there was a way to get the curves as smooth as in the modeling application.

Generally speaking, I wouldn't worry to much as that's just a visual issue. Besides, if the display really was 'exact' it would have a negative impact on display performance when working with a complex Drawing. Sometimes we avoid giving users control over some of these sort of things since they can be abused and then people will complain about performance. I'd rather have you see some 'jaggies' and get better display performance. I think you will also find that when you Print/Plot/Export PDF your drawings, that the curves will be rendered as exact as the 'media' will allow.
