PRV Flange Inspection

PRV Flange Inspection

PRV Flange Inspection

(OP)
Can someone tell me which of these code manuals contain the flange inspection
criteria for PRV and Safety Valves .ASME Sec.VIII div 1/ NBIC / or ANSI B16.
They all seem to address something about flanges but  I'm interested in the PRV
flange inspection for "In House" Valves during overhauls or outages.
                                                                Thanks.

RE: PRV Flange Inspection

PRV flanges are manufactured to ANSI B-16.5 Standards.
Nearly all PRV manufaturers publish excerpts from B-16.5 in their respective catalogs.

We do consulting and maintenance training for Owner/Users involved in "In House" repair of PRVs.  We always spend time on this issue.  Many clients have never addressed flange thickness as an item of PRV Critical Inspection Criteria.  For clients located in jurisdictions which require NBIC "VR" certification or where company policy requires such certification this is required in the repair inspection process.  For others, it is good engineering practice.  Unless the PRV is installed in a back pressure situation, the outlet flange is not as critical as the inlet.
