Rebar Placement in T-Beams

Rebar Placement in T-Beams

Rebar Placement in T-Beams

(OP)
I have designed a pile supported slab using T-beams, the load and distance is such that the beams require a significant amount of reinforcement:

Area of reinforcement in the web = ~2700mm²
Area of reinforcement in the flange = ~5400mm²

Which leaves a total area of reinforcement of ~8100mm²

Can I split this up between the web and the flange? Or do I need to leave this in the web, in the past I have solely reinforced the web and cannot find reinforcement details which indicate that it is acceptable in the CPCA Design Handbook to share the reinforcement area with the flange.

Background is the T-beams are to act as a slab on grade to support to 500m³ tanks. The beams are simply supported by helical piles, factored moment is ~1600kNm.

Thanks

RE: Rebar Placement in T-Beams

They can't be both 'slab on grade' and 'simply supported'....which is it? If the beams are simply supported, most of the requirement for reinforcement would be in the bottom, or web. But your description of web vs. flange reinforcement doesn't make sense. Maybe you can provide some details which explain your problem better.

RE: Rebar Placement in T-Beams

Along with Hokies questions, tension reinforcement in the flange is normally ignored in shear calculations. Only the reinforcement in the web contributes to Vc calculations.
