ansys workbench wind load . pressure
ansys workbench wind load . pressure
(OP)
I'm attempting to use ansys workbench 11, to model a series of vessels mounted on a steel base frame.
The soldiers model imports fine and has a series of static loads and moments applied to it.
However I also need to allow for wind loading, I have a wind speed I've converted to a wind pressure which I'm attempting to apply directionally, ie I select all components and apply a directional pressure to say the X axis.
Is this the right approach? Or can I apply the loading more simply, ie apply the pressure globally on a plane?
The problem also is that on cylindrical surfaces the pressure looks to be applied perpendicular to the surface and not to the proportion of the surface experiencing only an X direction wind loading.
I would think applying wind is a very common scenario, so what am I doing wrong.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
It all depends on the way you apply the load. Start looking at SURF154 elements in the manual. Check the different face options available for load application using this element.
From there it will be obvious what I´m telling you next.
Surface effect elements are used to apply the pressure loads on surfaces in most, if not all, cases in Workbench. If your load is defined as "Normal to", then face 1 of the surface effect element is loaded. If you define your load using components, face number 5 is loaded. Play around with these and pull up your model in MAPDL and look at the pressure arrows. (Plot -> Symbols .... ).
Hope this helps.
