Sizing a fan for a cooling system
Sizing a fan for a cooling system
(OP)
Good Afternoon,
I am wondering if someone can help me, I have been asked to size a fan for a cooling system. It will be in a sealed vessel on the sea bed, there is to be as little as possible air change. These fans are to be used to keep the ambient temperature within the vessel as low as possible. Presently I do not have any of the data that I imagine would be required, wild heat, required ambient temperature.
Long story short can someone point me in the direction of a website that will give me the basic principles to size this fan.
I have never sized a fan before, so any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

RE: Sizing a fan for a cooling system
Cp = heat capacity of air at specified temperature and pressure
Dt = change in temperature (Deg. F)
Then, CFM = BTUH/(Cp x Dt)
Normally, Cp = 1.08 (for cooling).
If you don't have the BTUH to be removed, and change in temperature, you have 2 unknowns, 1 equation = no unique solution.
Get more information. See ASHRAE's handbook of fundamentals.

How can you possibly size a fan without knowing the heat load? It's no longer April 1.

We are in the early stage of the project with the client not willing to give out much info, so my boss has just asked me to look at them to get an understanding.
Again thanks for the help.
