1-5/8" Roof Deck

1-5/8" Roof Deck

1-5/8" Roof Deck

(OP)
Anyone come across a 1-5/8" roof deck in their work on older buildings? Flutes are about 6" wide and sheets are 24" wide. Structure was designed/built in 1965. Section modulus listed was 0.25 in3. Just looking for additional data.

Thanks!

RE: 1-5/8" Roof Deck

Any idea of the manufacturer? Verco?

I will check when I get into work.

Thanks Mike.

No idea, that's all I have.

RE: 1-5/8" Roof Deck

1.5B deck is 1.5" deep and has flutes at 6" o.c. but modern panels are 30"-36" wide. I have seen standing seam metal roof panels at 24" that sort of fit your description... but that's a stretch. Photo?

The building was designed/constructed in 1965. A general detail/section indicates 1-5/8" 18-ga roof deck w/ minimum section modulus of 0.25. We measured 6" flute spacing & 24" panel width during a field visit. The deck spans between roof trusses and is topped with 1" insulation and (original) roofing.

RE: 1-5/8" Roof Deck

Does anyone know if Bouras is still around? They would know- I recall they were in Irving, TX.

All I find is 1.5" roof deck.

The definition of a structural engineer: overdesign by a factor of 1.999, instead of the usual 2.

RE: 1-5/8" Roof Deck

I am looking at a Vulcraft deck catalog, and if the S is 0.25", I am guessing it is an intermediate-rib width type F deck. The rib spacing is 6" and the rib opening is 1.75" at the top of the deck. You could interpolate values from this catalog. It is 1.5 F deck. The sheet width is 36". The Fy is 33 ksi.

Actually, S alone is not accurate because roof deck is not symmetric about its bending axis. There is Sp and Sn.
