Omission of Sprinklers in new construction within existing building.

Omission of Sprinklers in new construction within existing building.

Omission of Sprinklers in new construction within existing building.

(OP)
There is a college campus (single building with large area) fully protected with sprinkler system. The building has some open spaces (with some tress and plants) where new construction is required. The new construction will be for offices, activity hall, assembly hall etc. How the fire protection system will be designed in these new buildings? For example, new office building is not required to have sprinkler system as per IBC only if i consider that to be a separate new building. Am I doing it right or do I have to consider it to be a part of existing building and provide it with sprinklers. Please help.

RE: Omission of Sprinklers in new construction within existing building.

What building code and edition is it designed to??

Is this in the US????

We are following International Building Code. No its not in US. It is in Middle East.

Look at Chapter 34, which will help indicate whether you need to add sprinklers to the additions.

It sounds like the new additions are going to make the building a mixed occupancy, adding assembly, business, and possibly other to the building.

I would recommend sprinklers in the new additions.

RE: Omission of Sprinklers in new construction within existing building.

One has to be cautious here because I'm not clear if building area is being added. Second, I'm not sure if this building physically separated or it's separated by a fire wall. This could be a case where the allowable area is so great that sprinklers are now required throughout. We don't even know how big the office is, the number of stories, etc.

And I do NOT think this is project, as presented, is candidate for IBC Chapter 34.

And since insurance companies would credit building with sprinkler protection, and I don't think that it matters where you are located in this world, credit on sprinkler protection will pay for its installation within 7 to 12 years. After that span of time you save money on insurance.
