Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

(OP)
Hello all,

I saw this pipe during a field visit for an unrelated project. It's a pressure relief off a steam pressure reducing station.

Does anyone know why this vent is piped in this manner? Just curious because I've never seen this configuration before.

Thanks,
Ken

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

Funny. Why it was piped in this manner or (really) why it was left this way? My guess is partial demo of something prior...

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

Judging by the lack of supports, I'd guess this isn't a conscious design at all.

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

The fitting in the middle seems...well...non-Code, or at least, non-compliant, somehow.
The rusty part on top will certainly vent and drain, for as long as it remains there.

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

What "this?"

I don't see a link to a picture.

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

Somebody must 'ave pinched it, it was there last week.

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

can you resubmit the picture? would like to see it.

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

That almost looks like it could be a rubber bellows that collapsed on one side. Definitely unconventional and no doubt installed by someone who didn't know what they were doing. Thanks for sharing.

Now that I'm looking at it again, I think you're right.

Thanks all.

RE: Steam Relief Vent Piping Configuration

A "Rube Goldberg" vent pipe from a pressure relief valve.
