choice of jig's driving

choice of jig's driving

(OP)
Hi All,

I construct a simple jig.
Initial concept for that jig can be best described by a sketch attached to this post.
The jig working part will be doing 'to-and-from motion' (up-down). The loads (physical forces) working on the jig will be very small. A motor considered for this jig (represented by a wheel on the sketch) is a miniature DC motor.
In that jig I need controlled frequency of up-down movement.
My question is whether small DC motor rotations such as this one (link below)
http://www.mfacomodrills.com/motors/360.html
can be easy controlled at wide range of RPMs with use of e.g. a potentiometer, or through other means.

Thanks.
Regards.

RE: choice of jig's driving

Depends.

If you need any kind of precision, you will likely need some kind of encoder feedback. This gets complicated and you are probably better off with some kind of stepper motor at this scale.

If you don't need much precision, you can get any number of simple controllers for that DC motor.

There are other venders as well.

Your sketch doesn't show up. Maybe a mechanical crank/rocker is applicable. Maybe not.

RE: choice of jig's driving

HilaryE,

There is no sketch.

I like MicroMo and Maxon as source of small motors because they provide very detailed specifications on their motors. I did not bother to click on the PDF docs on your web like. Maybe there is something there.
