Swing Bolt Closure

Swing Bolt Closure

Swing Bolt Closure

(OP)
Dear all,

I saw a lot of swing bolt closure (design based on asme Sec8 Div.1 code) vessel in the internet, i was curious and would like to know which code in asme sec8 div1 shows the design of swing bolt closure?

What i read from asme sec8 div1 is UG-35.2 (a)(1) Closure of the swing bolts are not considered quick-opening.

So those swing bolt closure are not categorized as QOC. How should we design it?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
wcw

RE: Swing Bolt Closure

wcw1985, I never designed one of these, but here is what I imagine:

Neck per UG-27, head per UG-32, required bolt area Appendix 2, lugs & etc. per good engineering practice, using Code matetials and allowables. Fab & inspection per relevant parts of the Code.

Regards,

Mike
