Rebuilt CMU wall: top plate connection

Rebuilt CMU wall: top plate connection

Rebuilt CMU wall: top plate connection

(OP)
Hi folks,

I have a house job where the entire retaining CMU wall needed to be rebuilt. Any recommendations for connecting the top plate to the rebuilt wall? The existing floor joists are only 2x8 so drill and epoxy would be hard, and there's a 4" gap where we'll have a solid block at the wall top to match the existing height, so poured in place rebar ties would be hard. We thought about strap ties wrapped around the solid top course and tied to the sill.

Any better suggestions? Thanks!

RE: Rebuilt CMU wall: top plate connection

If you are pouring the top course, you can pre-drill the new top plate and embed the standard J-hooks.

If that's not possible, your specific problem needs a sketch.

I've had them go down thru the floor system from above in some jobs where it was possible.
The other option is to nail the sill plate with the bolts hanging into the bottom of the joists. Then, break out the face of the top course to go around the bolts and fill and form with mortar.
You could also make a connection from the face of the block to each joist with a piece of angle iron.
