NFPA 25 2014 HandBook now has all the reports - to what end?

NFPA 25 2014 HandBook now has all the reports - to what end?

NFPA 25 2014 HandBook now has all the reports - to what end?

(OP)
I've had the Handbook pdf on my desktop for a while but have only had a few cursory looks at it. I'm quite impressed with the level of detail they go into now in explaining the proper use of the standard.

I also notice that for the first time in ages they have included actual report forms. This has been sorely needed in the industry for a long time - a standardized form which essentially spells out what has to be done for any given inspection. Has anyone heard what the intent of putting these forms in the handbook is? Are these reports available for purchase or can we license the forms or copy them verbatim into our own reports?

RE: NFPA 25 2014 HandBook now has all the reports - to what end?

Well each building owner is suppose to have a copy of nfpa 25

RE: NFPA 25 2014 HandBook now has all the reports - to what end?

Well the book is copyrighted???

Any forms that are used for checking a fire protection system must comply with the reporting requirements of NFPA 25. Note that NFPA 25 does not have a specific form or series of forms that must be used when conducting inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) tasks. There is a common misconception that the inspector must fill out “the NFPA 25 form,” but the standard has no forms that are required to be used. This allows the owner and inspector to develop custom forms for their properties based on the systems that are present.
There are several electronic reporting systems that are also available. Any system that meets the minimum reporting requirements of the standard can be used.

B.2 Sample Forms
Sample forms are available for downloading at www.nfpa.org, www.nfsa.org, and www.sprinklernet.org.

RE: NFPA 25 2014 HandBook now has all the reports - to what end?

Hey Dave,

Regarding potentially copyright material - a quick call to NFPA would probably clear that up in a hurry.

Two things on a broader note:

-As great as these forms are, you will probably have to wait until the powers that be on the frozen tundra legislate compliance with the 2014 edition
-NFPA 25 has (to my knowledge) always spelled out what has to be done for a given inspection. Contractors just bung it up with their homemade inspection reports.

cheers

what section of the 2014 edition are you seeing the forms in?

Hi Steve

I've sent NFPA an email regarding this. cdafd, every relevant chapter in the Handbook version has an inspection form now. The Handbook is extremely well done for 2014 IMHO.

Trying to look through the electronic version of just the standard

RE: NFPA 25 2014 HandBook now has all the reports - to what end?

The forms are downloadable from the electronic version of the handbook. I just sent a contractor a Word document I downloaded from the 2013 edition of NFPA 72 which I accessed from my on-line edition.

I'd be interested in knowing how you did that. I have All Access and can view the 25HBK on-line. I can also print the individual forms out but it will not permit you to print as or save as a pdf file, nor do I see how WORD is even an option. You can save it as an image file but if you've noticed, NFPA actually is quite aware of this option and a file saved in this fashion looks quite poor. It's easier just to re-create your own in WORD.

I'm just curious as to why NFPA would go to the trouble of creating and publishing these forms if they did not intend for them to become a standardized report, and then why not sell or license the use of them? (This is what I've asked them).

The firesprinklerorg link is broken and the other just takes me to the NFSA store - where nothing is ever 'free'

NFSA and AFSA have long sold their own versions of the 25 report but you can't buy it as an editable pdf. In this day and age of electronic filing and inspectors using laptops and pads in the line of work, this is outdated.
