Plotters

Plotters

(OP)
I think this is the best place to ask about drafting tools.

We have a Hewlett Packard DesignJet 450C full sized colour printer. This is no longer supported by Hewlett Packard on Windows 7 64 bit. We may have to buy a new plotter to replace our otherwise perfectly functional plotter.

Does anybody have experience with other plotter manufacturers, and their support of old machines on new, up to date operating systems?

RE: Plotters

While there may not be a driver specifically for that model, the Win 7 drivers for some similar newer HP plotter may work.

Alternately, there must be a way to connect it as a local printer to an old XP machine and share it - although your IT group might balk.

Is there a driver for Linux?

MintJulep,

I looked up Linux support. It might be supported by GhostScript, which is how Linux prints. This allows me to take it home, assuming the company will let me, and assuming I can find somewhere to put it. Not likely.

A print server might work, if I can talk someone into it.

RE: Plotters

There was a company in Australia that specialized in drivers for obsolete plotters. I used them to get an updated driver for my Draft Pro EXL when I went from XP to win 7. Unfortunately I got rid of their details when I finally junked the draft pro and bought an Office Jet wide format printer/plotter. However it gives you a point to start looking.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.

RE: Plotters

We had to do the same thing several years ago. Took it as an opportunity to get a plotter that is also a copier/scanner so we could finally scan in all out old Mylar & sepia drawings and get rid of the vertical files.
