thread507-293723: 12-foot Tall Chain Link Fence with Privacy Slats

Please reference the above thread; for a typical chainlink fence (for, say, playground or other similar conditions), which has vinyl slats in them, what percent opening would be recommended for wind loading? I've used 60% in the past, but I'm hoping that's too conservative. Gulp.

RE: Chain Link Fence with Slats - Percent Opening

This manufacturer suggests obstruction of 70% to 90% for wind loading, depending on the style of the slats (per the wording of your question, that would be 10 to 30 percent opening, of course)

Perhaps you can find other helpful information on the "Chain Link Manufacturers Institute" website:

RE: Chain Link Fence with Slats - Percent Opening

We ignore the openings on something like that. If a sheet of plastic blows onto it - or if someone attaches a banner, sign, etc. then you are 100% solid.

Oops -- I meant 40% open, ...which now sounds not conservative at all. Hah. Anyway, many thanks for your inputs. First Eng-tips thread, too. Will definitely post again. Cheers.
