AISC Steel Construction Manual Hole To Edge For Floorbeam Connection Angles

AISC Steel Construction Manual Hole To Edge For Floorbeam Connection Angles

(OP)
Thanks For Looking. Im new in this field and am struggling with this somewhat. Im unclear on finding the correct Hole to Rolled Edge distance in the book for a L8x8x1" connected to a W33x141 Floorbeam which is also connected to the Main Girders. This is on a Bridge Project.

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual Hole To Edge For Floorbeam Connection Angles

Look in Chapters 9 & 10 as well as the specifications and commentary. That said, I'm not sure I fully understand that connection. The angle (double angle?) seems to extend above the girder and there's some odd shaped plate above it as well as a plate at the bottom of the girder... Also, with it's hard to tell where the girder begins or ends and generally hard to understand what's going on with it. Not trying to be overly critical; just letting you know I find it confusing.

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual Hole To Edge For Floorbeam Connection Angles

If you are new to structural engineering, you should have someone watching over what you are doing. Is there a senior level engineer who you can go to with questions? That looks like a pretty significant structure you're designing. Don't hesitate in asking questions to the other engineers in your office. I've been designing structures for 35 years, and I'm still asking questions!

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual Hole To Edge For Floorbeam Connection Angles

It seems like there might be more to worry about than edge distance here.

Does AASHTO reference AISC? I thought AASHTO pretty much was independent. It might parrot AISC, but you can't substitute.
