Change the color name.
Change the color name.
(OP)
I edited a color in the Color Palette. Now i want to give that color a name, but that doesn't work.
I can fill in a new name, i can save the Color Palette to an CDF-file, but the next time i open the Color Palette the color has the name of the original color that i changed.
Do i something wrong, is it possible to change the name and if not, why can i fill in an new name then?
Thanks in advance,

RE: Change the color name.
The colors have names of what they represent as compared to the color that they are.
I have loaded this color pallet into our seed files and then re-saved them.
I have also created a macro so that the cdf file can be quickly loaded.

RE: Change the color name.
I have to play a bit more with CDF-files to fully understand how it works.
But i have changed the color name in the CDF-file with Notepad and that works fine.
But then i don't understand why there is a possibility to change the color name in NX but that you can't save it.

RE: Change the color name.
This worked fine for me, but I think I know what's happening. When you edit the name of the 'Color' while in the 'Color' dialog and the message comes-up warning you that...
"This operation will replace the color pallet
Would you like to save your palette?"
...I'll bet that you said 'Yes', didn't you? Well this is NOT doing what I suspect that you thought it would. In reality, what this is for is to give you a chance to save your CURRENT color pallet just in case you've made previous changes that have not yet been saved. So it's actually saving the 'palette' with the old name as a safety measure. What you want to do is say 'No', or if you do want to make a safety copy, go ahead and say 'Yes', give it a name but when you come back to the 'Color' dialog now go down into the 'Options' section and ACTUALLY save your NEW current color palette, with the name changes, using the 'Save CDF As...' option.
I think you will find that this workflow will give you what you want. While it can be done, there is NO real need to actually edit the contents of your CDF files.

RE: Change the color name.
I have no option "No". I found that already very strange.
Once i click (accidentally) on "Use system color palette" there is no way back. In the pop-up menu i have three options: "OK", "Always OK" and "Save CDF as...", but there is no way back, the "system color palette" will be placed.
But when i edit a color and change the color and also the colorname and save this to a new color palette the color is changed, but it keeps the original color name.
So i think i have a bug with this. It is strange i can edit the color but not the colorname.

RE: Change the color name.
As for the 'Use System Color Palette' issue, there is an option to save your current color setting as a CDF file which means that after doing this you'd at least be able to recover back to where you were by simply loading the CDF that you just created.

Hitting "Enter" does the trick.
But a bit strange that clicking "OK" is not the same as "Enter", like it is in most of the programs.

but that's exactly what I can't find.
I'm am trying to load my custom Color Definition File into existing drawings, but I can't find how to do so.
The manual process of changing all those colors and names would take me at least a week.
I found out it's embedded into the drawing because, when I replace the one in the Program folder it works fine when creating a new blank drawing,
but (there is always at least one

Preferences -> Color Palette...
...and at the very bottom of the dialog, in the section titled 'Options', simply select the second Icon from the Left in the top row to load/replace a CDF file. Once you've done that, make sure that you 'Save' your Part file.
