Not Displaying Surfaces
Not Displaying Surfaces
(OP)
I am using NX 9 (Linux64) and it will only display the outer surface when the body is highlighted. This happens on some parts that I open that where not created on the machine (thinkpad). On my other workstation running NX 9 this never happens. I would greatly appreciate some help.
Thanks!

RE: Not Displaying Surfaces
Is this the only model that you're seeing this issue with? If there are others and the above suggestion has no effect, then it's possible that you may need to update your display driver. BTW, you are using a supported graphics card, correct?

RE: Not Displaying Surfaces
1. I have opened the step file from some software for electronics. I got this main board and several small components. But the main problem was on this main board.
2. This board have been showing only the side faces. There was no top face or bottom face. It looked like someone would draw the sketch and extruded with extrude/sheet option.
3. if you clicked on Analysis/MeasureBodies, you could measure the volume of this board. You could get also the mass. So clearly, this was not a sheet body. It was a solid, you just couldn't see the top and the bottom faces.
4. my first thought was graphics card. I have the certified one. I have done the update of the drivers. Nothing helped.
5. then (with help from GTAC), I finally clicked on Analysis/Examine Geometry. I have selected everything and run the analysis for this main board.
6. this analysis found out, that I have one Tiny object.
7. When I have deleted this object (it was one very very small chamfer), there was no problem anymore. The top and the bottom faces have finally appeared.
So, for your problem, maybe it would be good to run this Examine Geometry analysis. And see, if there is anything wrong with geometry.
RE: Not Displaying Surfaces
File -> Export -> Heal Geometry...
...and either accept the default name or enter a new part file name and after the function is completed and you see the report about what got fixed on your model(s), open the new part file and see if this fixed the problem.

If this is the case, this specific model will ( should ) do exactly the same on all your computers.
Per default NX only shades the visible side of solid faces which would give this strange appearance. I think it can be set under Preferences - Visualization Performance - General graphics - Backface culling. ( ?)
Try Information - Object and select one of the outer faces, OK, dismiss the info window. The displayed arrow should point out from the volume, if it points inward the solid its inverse.
Then try the heal geometry and keep your fingers crossed...
If the heal geometry doesn't correct the body, all i can think of to fix it is extract all faces and sew them to a new solid, + delete the original.

Tomas
