Masonry wall design

Masonry wall design

(OP)
Hi guys

I have been struggling with the correct procedure to calculate if a masonry wall is able to withstand a bolted steel frame cantilevering from the side of it. We have done a lot of masonry wall panel design cracked sections uncracted panals etc. But not sure about this one. Cause I can check the panal but what is to say that the bond strenght of that particular brick that you are connecting to is sufficient. Has any one done this type of check?

RE: Masonry wall design

It would be unwise to rely on bond strength of brickwork to carry a cantilvered load.
Is it a panel wall, or mass brickwork?

RE: Masonry wall design

Be very careful. I have had 2 failures in my career, and this was one of them. The wall distorted but did not collapse though.

Parrapit:
Why don’t you show us a sketch of the wall make-up and details; the canti. structure, loads, dimensions, etc., so we can get an idea of what you are actually trying to do. We can’t see it from here.
