Software to convert an AB PLC 2 program to SLC 500

Software to convert an AB PLC 2 program to SLC 500

(OP)
I have a 10 year old machine that uses a PLC2/16.  I would like to replace this PLC with a SLC 500.  Does anyone know of software to convert the program to run on an SLC 500.   Does anyone know of a good source to purchase spare parts for the PLC 2?  Thanks in advance.

RE: Software to convert an AB PLC 2 program to SLC 500

I am unaware of any software to convert plc2 to slc500.  If you are familiar with the operation of the machine then it would be easier to rewrite the code completely then to even try to copy it line by line to the slc.  Especially since there are instructions that will not convert exactly.

RE: Software to convert an AB PLC 2 program to SLC 500

I am aware of a program from AB that will convert a PLC2 program into a PLC5 program.  Unfortunately there is no program that converts a PLC2 to SLC500. Typically the PLC2 can use the same I/O and rack that the PLC5 does.  This can allow for a PLC5 CPU card to be plugged into the existing PLC2 rack. There is also an exchange program for that particular upgrade that may be available from AB. A local AB solution provider or AB distributer can help you with this process. The SLC500 is a smaller less expensive approach if you are starting from zero however if you already have the I/O and only need to change out the CPU it may be more cost effective.  You can get quite a few spare parts from Ebay they have a ton of AB stuff online all the time.
