Correct drawing standard for electrical cables drawings

Correct drawing standard for electrical cables drawings

Correct drawing standard for electrical cables drawings

(OP)
I am looking for the correct standard to call out for drawings of electrical cable. The component drawing showing cable pin connections and assembly drawing showing connector assy to cable.
Current drawings have ASME Y14.5 referenced but I'm not sure thats right,I think IEEE 315 should be referenced.
To be clear these are not signal or data cables but large 120, 208V 3 phase cables.
Input and answers are greatly appreciated!!
thanks!

RE: Correct drawing standard for electrical cables drawings

It depends on what you are detailing. If you are depicting the physical components of the cable assembly, Y14.5 may be the correct standard. If you are defining diagrams which depict the elements or functions of electrical or electronic items using standard symbols, you are probably correct that ANSI/IEEE Std 91 and/or IEEE Std 315 be specified, though it would be covered under ASME Y14.100-2013 (which directs you to ASME Y14.24-2012, where the IEEE standards are included).
It boils down to what you need to produce; a "schematic" type drawing, or a "picture" type drawing.

forum1103: Drafting Standards, GD&T & Tolerance Analysis would be a good place to ask this type of question.
