Restore missing surface

Restore missing surface

Restore missing surface

(OP)
Hi,
I've imported an igs from CoCreate and some surfaces aren't closed and trimmed.
I attach the origina igs and the NX8 part.
Sincerly I've played but I don't find a solution to close and solidfy the part.
Can someone try to find a solution ?

Thank you...

RE: Restore missing surface

OK, it appears that the missing faces are some sort of transition or 'draft' area and while it's not 100% definite what the shape is, we know it it's not planar. Note that in NX 9.0.1.3 we've introduced a new function, Fill Surface, which I used to close the voids with at least a pair of GO continuous 'patches' thus closing the volume and creating a solid. Now it it possible that some addtional blends might be needed to actually finish the model but I didn't go that far. Here is a picture showing how the 'Fill Surface' feature was created:

Of course, since you're only working in NX 8.0 you don't have access to this function nor can you deal with a model saved in NX 9.0 so to that end, I've attached a Parasolid version of my final model compatible with NX 8.0. As I said, you'll probably want to add some additional blends but I'll leave that up to you.

RE: Restore missing surface

I don't have NX8 so i cannot upload a model for you. I tried the N-sided surface in NX8.5 and it seems to work fine for this.
Subtype "Trimmed" and "Trim to boundary". Make sure that all edges are selected around the void and that the tolerance is tight enough on the n-sided features. It then sews nicely into a solid body.

Tomas

Hi to all,
thank for the support, but I can't use the fill surface (I'm testing NX9 on company) and N-sided because generate draft surface, when the original surface is vertical like the prt uploaded.
Thank you anyway.

Thank you...

Using NX 8 and TC9.1

RE: Restore missing surface

Hi all

It seems that a flat face with two blends that terminate at the same vertex did not survive the IGS conversion intact. I took a shot at rebuilding the corrupted faces, the result is not a perfect match but might be good enough depending on the intended usage of the part.

Hi petulf,
it's perfect.
Can you tell me what you have done ?
I've lot of CoCreate igs that have this type of problems.

Thank you...

RE: Restore missing surface

I took a quick and dirty approach, a more correct way would be to use face blend and with radius method set to tangency constraint using the old blend edges as the coincident curves. But that would have required an extensive cleanup of those edge curves.
